Ear Aesthetics
Ear aesthetics, medically known as otoplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure generally preferred due to discomfort with the shape or size of the ears. This procedure is done to ensure that the ears are more symmetrical or in harmony with your head. Otoplasty, which can be performed on both children and adults, can increase the individual's self-confidence and improve the general appearance.
Otoplasty Procedure:
Otoplasty is a procedure usually performed under local anesthesia. There are two basic approaches:
-
Otoplasty Performed Behind the Ear: It is a technique performed by entering through the folds behind the ear. In this method, the ear cartilages can be reshaped and the ear can be positioned closer to the head.
-
Otoplasty Performed from the Front Face (Ear Aesthetics): It is a preferred method, especially if the auricle is too large or prominent. The auricle cartilages are thinned or shaped and the ear gains a more compact appearance.
Who is Otoplasty Suitable for?
Otoplasty is generally preferred during childhood or adolescence because ears are more plastic and malleable at these ages. However, adults can also opt for this procedure. The important thing is to create a plan that is compatible with the individual's general health and aesthetic expectations.
Healing Process After Otoplasty:
After otoplasty, a recovery period that usually takes a few days is expected. A bandage may be wrapped around the head and the patient may be asked to hold the head in a certain position. Edema and bruising decrease over time and patients can return to their normal daily activities.
